Deputy Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Winston Ennis, represented Kingston's Mayor Senator Delroy Williams, at a Wreath Laying Ceremony which marked the 110th anniversary of the 1907 Kingston Earthquake in Bumper Hall, on Friday.
The ceremony was an initiative of the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) in memory of victims of the 1907 Earthquake at Bumper Hall.
Also in attendance were the Most Hon. Portia Simpson- Miller, Leader of the Opposition; Hon. Olivia Grange, Minister of Culture; Councillor Donovan Samuels (Tivoli Gardens Division) who represented Hon. Desmond McKenzie Minister of Local Government and Community Development and ODPEM senior managers and other officials.
The ceremony, which was held on the grounds of the 1907 earthquake monument, established in the Bumper Hall community of Greenwich Town, Kingston, was a time of reflection yet urgency as persons emphasised the need for vigilance.
